Employment

Research and common sense tell us that if an individual with a criminal record is going to remain "crime free" he or she needs the self-sufficiency and stability provided by regular employment. Yet many of Safer's clients are unfamiliar with the work environment.

Preparing clients for the world of work so that they can succeed is at the heart of Safer's mission. The Safer Foundation uses a three-step employment process to maximize the likelihood of not only getting a job, but more importantly, maintaining employment through that particularly difficult first year post-release.

First, the Safer Foundation provides pre-employment training to instruct clients on the culture and expectations of the workplace.

Next, trained Safer employment specialists work with clients and employers to obtain suitable job referrals and placement.

Finally, Safer focuses on job retention by maintaining contact with both the client and the employer for one-year post-placement to resolve any issues that may arise to threaten continued employment.
